# First Discovery parent direction poll charter

**Round:** `fd-parent-direction-round-01`
**Audience:** parents, guardians, and adult caregivers only
**Purpose:** advisory product-direction evidence, not market research about children

## Questions this round may inform

The round asks three fixed-choice questions:

1. which one or two bounded prototypes MakeJoy should test next;
2. which three safety and access promises parents most need MakeJoy to explain and verify; and
3. which one or two settings should receive the clearest first-use path.

Every question is optional. A ballot must answer at least one question. The
poll does not ask an adult to relay a child's answer, and it does not ask for a
child's age, interests, behavior, or other personal information.

## Data boundary

The page is in-memory and makes no request until an adult deliberately submits
the temporary tally. The direct request and optional exported file contain only
one fixed round ID, one ballot total, three skipped totals, and eighteen
cumulative option totals. Individual choice combinations are cleared
immediately after an adult adds a ballot and are never stored as response rows.
A one-ballot tally necessarily reveals that response through its count pattern
during the request; the endpoint immediately adds it to the cumulative round
row and retains no request or response record.

The separate adult handoff rejects extra fields, including names, contact
details, household or child demographics, locations, comments, free text,
child-created content, individual ballots, timestamps, submission IDs, IP
addresses, and user-agent values. The database contains one cumulative totals
row for the entire round and no submission table.

MakeJoy does not include or store IP addresses or user-agent data. Cloudflare
necessarily processes ordinary connection data to deliver and protect the
hosted page. There is no public live-results endpoint, account, cookie,
telemetry, analytics tag, or automatic duplicate identifier.

## Decision rule

Counts can reorder prototypes, documentation work, and supported formats. They
cannot weaken the project's safety, accessibility, offline, open-print, or
no-pressure commitments. The team should publish the closed-round totals and a
short explanation of what changed, what did not, and why. Small convenience
samples must be described as directional, never representative of all parents
or children.

## Facilitation

- Ask adults to answer for their own priorities, not to hand the form to a child.
- Do not write a participant's selections elsewhere.
- Let every question be skipped without explanation.
- Submit each temporary tally or saved aggregate once; the privacy boundary
  prevents automatic duplicate detection.
- Treat a local “ballot added” message as local only. Online collection succeeds
only when the page displays its green **Accepted online** receipt.
